Injury Prevention and Treatment Programs for Wolcott Dancers
Dancers are athletes as well as performing artists. Every dancer makes movements like no other athlete. They are particularly vulnerable to injury. It's because of the precision, flexibility and repetition of their movements. Dancers also require a unique approach to treatment and quick recovery, a must for for keeping learned techniques or muscle memory. We treat dancers of all backgrounds and abilities, from recreational to pre-professional athletes in classical ballet, jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, tap and competitive dance.
Our Injury Prevention Assessment Program will help a dance studio manage dance-related injuries plus educate dancers about preventing injuries and staying healthy. Our dance programs assess the risk of injury and diagnose injuries at their earliest and most treatable stages.
Injury Prevention Assessment
Dance studios have the option to have dancers assessed before injuries occur when they sign up for our injury prevention assessment program. A physical therapist will meet with each dancer to evaluate the alignment, strength and flexibility, as well as assess functional dance positions and moves.
At the end of the assessment, the licensed clinician provides an individually tailored exercise regimen that includes recommendations for technique modification, training strategies, and footwear that can reduce the risk of injury. We offer individual in-person visits at F.I.T in Southington CT.
Injury Prevention Lectures and Workshops
Injury prevention lectures and workshops address a variety of topics on injury prevention, including cross-training, warm-up techniques, nutrition and hydration, pointe readiness, and environmental safety. Safe Landing Clinics
Dancers who jump land risk traumatic injuries such as ankle sprains and knee tears. We evaluate a dancer’s risk of those injuries. This program is used to assess the biomechanics of a dancer’s jump landing in order to identify his or her specific risk of injury and determine which exercises can be used to improve landing performance.
